 人體的腸道中寄生著三百種以上、總數超過一百兆的細菌,可大略分為有害菌、有益菌及伺機菌三種。有害菌是指對人體健康有害的細菌,如大腸桿菌(Escherichia coli)、葡萄球菌(Staphylococcus aureus)等;有益菌最具代表性的就是乳酸菌(lactic acid bacteria, LAB);伺機菌則是較為投機的一個族群,例如偽單胞菌(Pseudomonas)和黴菌(Fungus),既非有益菌,也不是有害菌,當人體的免疫能力亦即抵抗力良好時,伺機菌按兵不動,一旦人體生病或抵抗力降低時,伺機菌便會與有害菌結合,危害人體的健康。

康貝兒乳酸菌以「混合培養技術」將十種優質乳酸菌組合,並採用生化工程中的細胞固定化技術,此固定化技術可提高康貝兒內含之乳酸菌對酸鹼度、溫度等外界環境因子的耐受性,增加其貯藏期間的安定性,同時也能減少低溫及凍結對乳酸菌所造成的傷害,以提高乳酸菌菌數及食品加工處理過程中的乳酸菌存活率。除了細胞固定化技術,康貝兒乳酸菌以真空冷凍乾燥方法使乳酸菌成休眠狀態,遂使乳酸菌能延長保存時間、增加乳酸菌之存活率。
